THE BEARS ARE BACK IN TOWN

In a surprise development, the National Park System is planning to reintroduce grizzly bears to the Pacific Northwest!

Grizzlies had previously lived in the North Cascades for centuries, but were purged from the region during American expansion into the West.

NPS believes recultivating a grizzly bear population in the North Cascades will increase biodiversity and benefit the overall health of the ecosystem, which lacked the bears’ predatory presence.

WHY IT MATTERS?

• The reintroduction of grizzlies into the region will mark the end of a thirty year absence in the PNW for the bear.

• Hikers in the North Cascades need not fear - only 100 bears are expected to be reintroduced over the next decade, making the odds of encountering a grizzly on vacation extremely unlikely.
