RABBITS HAVE A NSFW ADDICTION - HERE’S WHY

It’s true - rabbits really do breed like rabbits.

Because rabbits are easily hunted by predators in the wild, their impulse is to reproduce as early as possible - sex is their literal defense mechanism.

HOW MANY BUNNIES CAN ONE FAMILY MAKE?

Rabbits are capable of birthing a full litter every month, and these babies can reproduce after only three months. This adds up quickly.

Without intervention, one pair of rabbits would multiply to 3.7 million rabbits after four years!

WHY IT MATTERS?

  • Overpopulation is a leading cause of death for domestic rabbits - domestic rabbits produce more babies than homes

  • To protect baby bunnies - spay and neuter your rabbit!

A HYENA’S SOCIAL STATUS CHANGES THEIR POOP??

Scientists can now predict the social status of hyenas within their group solely by examining the molecular qualities of their scat.

They found a distinct difference between the poop of high-class and low-class hyenas, and could predict class with 80% accuracy solely through stool exams.

WHY IT MATTERS?

  • Hyenas are similar to humans - their social status seems to cause a change in genes.

  • The researchers don’t know if human stool works the same way, but they predict that similar patterns might be found in human poop.

GOOD NEWS - THE HUMAN BRAIN IS GETTING BIGGER!

We now know the average human brain today is 15% percent larger than it was in 1930!

Researchers at UC Davis found that younger people (born post-1970) are generally born with larger brains than older people (born pre-1970) - each subsequent decade has larger brains than the one before.

WHY IT MATTERS?

  • Brain size is a critical defense against aging - bigger brains are less likely to develop dementia and other cognitive diseases.

  • This finding explains the recent drop in dementia - researchers have also found a 20% reduction in dementia per decade for the past 50 years.
